Press-Conference, devoted to the opening of
the XIV International Taekwon-Do (ITF) Tournament
«Cup of Peter The Great»

Press-Conference, forestalling the XIV International Taekwon-Do (ITF) Tournament «Cup of Peter The Great», took place in ITAR-TASS Agency on Thursday.
President of Petersburg taekwon-Do federation Mr. Mikhail Shmelev thanked the tournament sponsors and marked that the interest to the competitions was very high this year. Arrival of President of International Taekwon-Do Federation professor Chang Ung, International Olympic Committee member, is expected. This event emphasizes especially high status of this year “Cup of Peter the Great”.
Steadfast attention of all fans and experts of Matrial Arts will be riveted to the competitions during this period.
Mr. Shmelev invited all the fans to come to “Yubileynij” Sports Palace on 9th and 10th of December and promised, that everybody would get the real pleasure of stubborn struggle of the highest level competitors.

The Honoured master of sports, coach of St-Petersburg team Alexandr Simakov marked, that the new stars of Taekwon-Do would be lighted at the tournament.
The performances of 38 competitors of our city team among which there are avowed masters of Taekwon-Do such as World champion Anton Shamanin, winner of World and Europe Junior Championships Yelena Semenina and winner of Russian Junior championship Roman Savchenko are expected.
The chairman of the Umpire Committee of Taekwon-Do Open Europe Cup “Cup of Peter The Great” Igor Scheglov informed that the new entertainment kind of competitions – self-defence was brought in the program of the tournament.
It was found out, that the new rules were introduced in International Taekwon-Do Federation with the purpose of entertainment increasing of this kind of sport.
In closing Mikhail Shmelev informed, that the preparation to the XIV International Taekwon-Do (ITF) Tournament «Cup of Peter The Great» was close to be finished, and promised, that the real festival for fans of Martial Arts would be in “Yubileyniy” on the 9th and 10th of December.

Competitions will start at 9 a.m., December,9. The inauguration of the tournament will take place at 4 p.m.
