"Peter the Great Cup is on the river Neva banks again!"
(by Vladimir Vinogradov, Anatoly Mostov)
Tomio Nomo Chagi became stubborn
(Part 1)
Tomio Nomo Chagi - is a Korean name for the kick in the
wooden board held by assistants and placed right after the conventional
barrier of 70 cm high. Having taken a running jump over the barrier
a competitor strikes the board and necessarily lands with his feet
both on the ground.
… That was the final fifth blow. And the four previous ones had
a different specificity as the wooden board was fixed in the air.
Such qualities as competitor's height and his high jump skill are
necessary to be mentioned as a decisive factor. A tall competitor
only or the one with super springiness is able to reach the board
fixed at 3 meters high level. For instance, Eugeny Vinogradov, "the
little one" from the St-Petersburg team failed Tomio not having
reached the board fixed at 2 m 60 cm height.
30 fighters performed their skill at the carpet with Special Technique
machines placed in the corners. No one of them was lucky in fulfilling
the stubborn fifth blow. This is what should be thought over by
the coaches…
The three best fighters broke through the preliminary competitions
to get to the finals, they were: Alisher Makkamov (Uzbekistan, 9
points), the competitor from St-Petersburg Eugeny Vinogradov (8
points), Alexandre Orlovsky (Moldova, 7 points).

Anticipating the following account Tomio Nomo
Chagi was not completed by anyone (no one was able to keep balance
having completed the blow). The tall competitor from Moldavia was
given preference. Alexandre Orlovski, performing last, was aware
of the two previous results with the 8 points leading position of
Alisher Makkamov as a result of the four previous blows. Alexandre's
goal was to get the maximum points performing those four blows.
Unfortunately the young competitor obviously was lacking certain
experience.
The result is as follows: Makkamov - gold, Orlovski - silver, Vinogradov
- bronze.
